When a link needs to be made between elements in the recovery operation in most cases a shackle is the most suitable and reliable way to do it. Using the incorrect type of shackle can result in damage to the strap or a failure under stress. Bow shackles are intended for use with straps, such as the SecureTech Kinetic Strap and SecureTech Pull Strap. The extra width of a bow shackle prevents the strap from being crushed during maximum stress.
For your peace of mind, all SecureTech Bow Shackles are marked with the Working Load Limit (WLL).
Important rules when using shackles:
When using a shackle for a recovery operation, tighten the bolt and then loosen it by a quarter of a turn. This prevents damage to the thread and makes releasing the bolt easier.
Never use two shackles to join two straps together. If one strap should break the attached shackles become a deadly missile.
D-shackles are used when joining sections of a chain or attaching a chain to a vehicle. Do not use a D-shackle with straps as damage to the straps is likely.
