Folks,
There is a battle between Good and Evil taking place on Zimbabwe’s roads. The evil has manifested in greed and corruption with a terrible loss of life in road traffic accidents, along with commuters’ peace and sense of wellbeing.
This appeal is directed to those who choose Good over Evil – those who will invest the time to leave the bullies and rogues who are extorting bribes, empty handed.
For those who choose to pay the bribe, you are the Corrupter and part of the problem, not part of the solution. This document is not intended for you; however, you can choose to be part of the solution at any time …
The Road Users Association Roadblock Checklist was created in 2016 to assist the honest motorist deal with dishonest individuals. Given the dishonest behaviour by some members of ZRP, and individuals masquerading as ZRP, the RUA is reintroducing the Checklist.
The Principles of the RUA Roadblock Checklist:
- Bullies hide behind being anonymous and the Checklist compels them to reveal their identities. When they oblige and provide their names, force numbers and station, they’re no longer anonymous.
- If they refuse to identify themselves, they are either ‘bogus’ or just acting outside of Police Regulations.
- Either way, using the Checklist you have increased control of the situation and are on the front foot.
- Many members of ZRP are confused about the regulations and the relevant fines. Your “Roadblock Kit” will assist in clearing up any confusion.
Your "Roadblock Kit" will include:
- Printed copies of the Roadblock Checklist, a pen and usefully, a clipboard. (First impressions count, folks! Look organised.).
- A copy of the current Schedule of Deposit Fines (Traffic).
- Your copy of the Big Sky Cubbyhole Notes.
A copy of Statutory Instrument 129/2015 Road Traffic (Construction, Equipment and Use) Regs, 2015.
The Roadblock Checklist, the Schedule of Deposit Fines and SI 129/2015 are available to download from Big Sky Supplies – Roads & Traffic and the Files section on Facebook/DearZRP

You are also strongly encouraged to educate and prepare yourself by reading the The Big Sky Guide to Mastering the Traffic Jungle which covers traffic fines in Zimbabwe, avoiding car invasions, how to recognise a legitimate ZRP checkpoint, and much more.
Be aware that use of the Roadblock Checklist will require an investment in time, and you will need to be brave in the face of bullies who are professionals at “pressing our buttons”.
However, it’s really important to realise you are never alone. WhatsApp groups have become an essential platform to connect with your community, and the popularity of the “Traffic Groups” confirms this. If you find yourself in a difficult situation, reach out to your community, whether it’s on your Traffic Group, your local resident’s group, or an emergency/security group.
If it’s at a realistic hour, from experience you can be guaranteed to get a response to an appeal for help.
Wishing you a return to peaceful and safe journeys,
Sean Q.

Kindly please send me a copy of whatever I need to know, or should have in my car.
Thank you for caring about these issues and educating all of us out here too.

Hello Natalie,
It will be a pleasure to assist, and you will shortly receive an email with notes on the equipment to be ZRP compliant. In the meantime, have a look at our recently published notes, here: https://bigsky.co.zw/the-big-sky-traffic-faqs/
Safe journeys,
Sean Q.
Hi Sean, I read carefully your notes, but would be interested in receiving by email a pdf of these checklist and doc to print out!
